James J. Knackstedt, M.D.

Born and raised in Western Nebraska, Dr. Knackstedt began practicing medicine in Eugene, Oregon in 1986 at the Eugene Hospital and Clinic, where he also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for 5 years.
He entered private practice in 1992, and co-founded Oregon Ear, Nose
and Throat PC.

He practices all phases of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, and enjoys a mix of adult and pediatric patients. He has a special interest and emphasis in sinus disease and minimally invasive sinus surgery, including Balloon Sinuplasty. Besides his main office in Eugene, he also has an outreach office in Florence, OR.

Dr. Knackstedt endeavors to help his patients understand the cause of the problems they are facing as well as the available treatment options, and facilitates their participation in the decision making for their care.

Since moving to Eugene, he has enjoyed raising his three sons, participating in community activities, sponsoring events at the SHEDD Institute for the Arts, attending U of O athletic events, and hiking the trails
of the Oregon coast and the Cascades.

Susan Detels, Au.D.

Dr. Detels was born and raised in Southern California and met her husband when she moved to Eugene in 1991, and together they raised 3 daughters. She enjoys listening to patients, hearing their unique stories, and solving problems together. She loves spending time outdoors, and hiking new trails.

Dr. Detels specializes in adult hearing evaluations and fitting amplification, custom hearing protection, and assistive listening devices. She is also able to program bone anchored hearing aids. She is in the office M, W, Th, F - please call to check for hours and availability.
